You’ve got the account, now what? Ok, so you have an online dating site profile, or maybe you have several on different sites. You have some witty things in there about yourself and you put a couple of pictures you found from a couple years ago that look decent. Now, you’re sitting there and your wondering why the responses aren’t coming in like you expected.

Better online dating profiles attract more interest from other singles at the dating site and quality profiles also elicit more responses and inquiries. Writing a better online dating profile is not as easy as some people think, but it’s also not a rocket science, and learning how to write a profile that will make you come across as an attractive, interesting person is certainly worth the effort.

I cannot emphasize how important a carefully put together online dating profile is, whether you are on a more traditional site or a new cutting edge one. No one will ever find out how fabulous you are in person unless you actually meet, and for this to happen, you need a stellar profile: words and pictures.

The first item anyone who views your profile will see, in addition to your photo (which we’ll get to later), is your dating ad headline. So make your headline interesting and different enough, so that the person reading it will want to know more about you and continue onto the rest of your dating profile. You can make your headline funny, or unusual, but remember to keep it unique.

Have you ever gone out on a first date where the person you were with complained about his/her work, ex, etc? Such negative talk is a major turnoff. Likewise, negativity is a major turnoff in your profile. Being positive is like a magnet. Being negative is like wearing a skunk aroma.

First mission on giving you an online dating profile makeover is to talk about the pictures. What you want to do here is simple; get several pictures taken of yourself that will be recent and nice. You do not want to use pictures that are too revealing or too sexy. This will give the wrong impression.

For the love of G-d, try to utilize good grammar and spelling. There is nothing worse than a profile that reads, “I love to red, skii, and do the Times croword in Sunday morning.” Yikes. For some reason I think it takes him (or her) a while to do that crossword. Bad spelling and grammar indicate that you are careless, stupid, or both.

Do not be misleading and most importantly, do not give to much personal information. And finally, be courteous and answer all responses to your online dating profile quickly and politely. If you are not interested in someone who responds to your online dating profile, let them down politely.
